A Design Legend's Own Senior Chair for Everyone

Yrjö Kukkapuro is a great modernist of Finnish furniture design. We have enjoyed his sense of ergonomics and beauty for decades, sitting on his chairs and seats in health center waiting rooms, auditoriums, workplaces, the metro, theaters, and libraries. Now, we can add care homes to the list of important everyday seating, as we have the honor of beginning production of the YK91 SR chair at our Lahti factory in the autumn of 2024.

Yrjö Kukkapuro originally began designing a senior chair for himself, which has been named YK91 SR in our collection. The name doesn’t need much explanation when we remember that the design legend was born in 1933, and the chair was launched 2024.

The raised chair offers a firm grip when standing up. The chair has long armrests and a shallow seat depth, both of which facilitate easy sitting down and standing up. The back structure provides lumbar support and allows the chair to be moved without extra push handles. The painted metal frame is easy to keep clean. The frame is available in a curated color chart typical of the designer. It's also possible to get the frame in other colors as a special order.

The chair is available in an oak veneer version and a fixed upholstered version. For senior use, we recommend vinyl fabric or artificial leather.
