At the Myllykoti nursing home in Turku, traditional wooden dining sets have been replaced with metal-framed tables and chairs from the Mainio series. The use of clear, distinct colors helps residents with memory disorders better perceive and navigate their environment.
With the arrival of the Mainio furniture, the struggle of moving heavy chairs is now a thing of the past. Some chairs were equipped with optional wheels, while others were ordered without. Residents who move independently use the chairs without wheels, while those with wheels make it easier to assist residents who need help getting into position—directly improving the work ergonomics of the staff.
The new furniture has received a wealth of positive feedback from both residents and employees. Nurses have highlighted the practicality, ease of maintenance, and the sturdy, durable feel of the pieces. The cheerful color scheme has been a hit with everyone.
When Myllykoti eventually moves to entirely new facilities, the vision of creating unique, individual color schemes for different group homes can be expanded even further around the current furniture. These long-lasting pieces allow for consistent long-term planning.
